Black-Owned Brands for Baby: Our Picks

Our “Curation & Inspiration” posts highlight the products that we love best for new parents, parents to be, and little ones. While we’re not all in a place to shop right now, those who are able to can help out by shopping at Black-owned businesses, which have been disproportionately affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

For this list, we’ve rounded up some seriously stylish shops and brands for all things baby and picked our favorite products to feature. We don’t make any money off these posts; we just want to share our current sources of inspiration for beautiful baby stuff. If you’re expecting, or if you’re shopping around for a standout baby shower gift, you’re sure to find inspiration from the shop owners and artisans featured here.

HarperIman dolls

The mother and daughter team of HarperIman knows how to make a gorgeous doll. These handmade linen beauties can be personalized–from skin tone to hair texture–to resemble your little one! And when you buy one of these heirloom-quality dolls, you’re helping support the company’s mission “to create dolls of color that are more relatable.”

Brave + Kind Bookshop

A “neighborhood” bookshop in Decatur, Georgia, Brave + Kind fortunately has an online shop for us non-Georgians. You can get lost in their variety of books and they’re all pretty enough for gifting. We especially love their story book bundles and monthly delivery subscriptions, which make for a gift that lasts all year!

Yinibini Baby

This D.C.-based shop features the sweetest baby clothes and accessories screenprinted with modern patterns and lovable animal art. (The badminton-playing octopus tee *might* be in my cart right now.) We fell hard for these organic cotton onesies donning the D.C. flag, from their “DC Flag Collection.”

Miles and Milan

Shennel Fuller, Founder and CEO of Miles and Milan, created the brand to support a “minimalistic yet fashion thoughtful aesthetic,” that she thought was missing in most baby clothes. And we’re glad she did. We love Miles and Milan’s streamlined, black-and-white color scheme and that clever smiley face with the “MM” branding in the eyes. This set makes an easy gender-neutral gift.

Little Muffincakes

The name Little Muffincakes is reason alone to shop here. But we’re also enamored with the characters featured on their baby products: Ashton and Zhara. This muslin snap bib‘s pattern is called “Black Girl Magic,” and features Zhara. (They have matching blankets and burp cloths, too.) And get this–they even carry wrapping paper featuring the same adorable faces!

Pretty Please Teethers

Pretty Please Teethers carries much more than baby teethers, but how gorgeous are these?! The shop’s owner, Kelli, designs and hand-makes them from silicone and beechwood for a safe and high quality product your baby can drool all over.

The Eco Baby Co.

The Eco Baby Co. is a family-owned business, with mom, dad, and the kids all having a part in the shop’s success! The shop carries so many products and brands, it’s hard to pick a favorite, but this glass baby bottle by Baby Quoddle wrapped in a palm leaf bag would make the sweetest shower gift.

Alphabettini

We adore this brand-new Etsy shop’s personalized letter prints. You can choose what details to include in the print and personalize the baby’s look. We’re always excited about nursery art that spotlight’s baby’s name! And this colorful print would really add some pop to a neutral nursery.

The Little Posh Co.

Handmade apparel for the “mini-trendsetter” is what The Little Posh Co is all about. How cute is this linen grid matching set?! Available in sizes from baby to big kid, this is the perfect summer outfit for a baby photo shoot.

Le Petit Organic

Founded by mother-of-three Jay K. Smith, Le Petit Organic specializes in eco-friendly children’s clothing, toys, and decor. The shop’s selection is massive, but we fell for the practicality of these folding crates by Eef Lillemor. Who doesn’t need more organization in their lives? And when it’s available in trend-forward pastels, all the better.

And those are our favorite Black-owned brands for baby. We hope you’re feeling as inspired as we are. Readers, if you have others to add, please share!
