It was back in February that Kylie Jenner and Travis Scott announced their second child’s name: Wolf Webster. The internet had its opinions as it tends to do with Kardashian/Jenner baby names. Some thought it was too wild (Wolf?! Like the animal?!), while others—like us—thought it was relatively tame (Wolfgang has a long history of use, so why not?). And when the judgments subsided, we all went about our lives. A month later, Kylie took to Insta to share that she and Travis had changed their baby’s name, telling the world in the most nonchalant of ways, “FYI our son’s name isn’t Wolf anymore.” Now THIS was newsworthy. The Kardashian/Jenner women are known for their bold and unapologetic styles; these women don’t make mistakes. And yet, here was Kylie telling us that she “just really didn’t feel like it was him.”
In that moment, Kylie did something important: she showed us that new moms can change their minds. Of course Kylie isn’t the first celebrity to publicly change her baby’s name. Amy Schumer preceded her in 2020 by changing her son’s name from Gene Attell to Gene David (after deciding that Gene Attell sounded too much like “genital”).
Not all parents will go to the extent of changing their child’s name after it has been officially declared. There are many who feel as though too much time has passed to change it or that it’s embarrassing to do so, even if they’re experiencing major baby name regret.
But celebrities are putting the issue in the spotlight, and we think this is a good thing. As an added bonus, us name lovers get to spend even more time dreaming up the possibilities. Anyone else ready to know what name Kylie and Travis chose? Based on the names the Kardashian/Jenners have already chosen, we know that guessing is near impossible. But we can identify some patterns and styles that they seem to gravitate towards:
Place Names
Billionaire Kylie is part of the jet-set, with interest in fashion and lavish international vacations. Maybe there is a place name that has both the style for a baby name she seeks as well a sentimental tie. We think names like Milan, Rome (or perhaps Roman) might fit the bill. Then there’s Travis Scott, who has deep roots in his native Texas. However, where once we might have placed higher bets on the name Houston being a possibility, after the tragedy at the Astroworld festival, we think that name is off the table. Other Texas or Houston-specific names though could come into play.
On top of that, the extended family already has a few children with place names. Consider Kim’s daughter, Chicago West, and Kourtney Kardashian’s stepdaughter, Alabama Barker.
Short Names
Nickname names are very on trend now, as are short, snappy names that sound like nicknames. We think that if Jenner and Scott go in this direction, a short name with a more literal or obvious meaning might be the choice. Consider names like Blaze, Dash, Cruz, or Rex as possible options.
Word Names
Some people prefer a baby’s name to have a subtle meaning embedded in history and culture, but then there are others who love a literal name. On top of the list of people who love literal word names are the rich and famous. Think of fruit-named children like Apple Martin or Peaches Geldof, or the literal names given to some of Nick Cannon’s children (Zen, Zillion Heir, Golden, Powerful Queen). Well, we think Kylie Jenner and Travis Scott trend in this direction as well, what with Stormi and their original pick of a name for their son—Wolf.
As to where their taste might trend, think names that invoke power. Those like Priest, King, Creator, Mogul, Czar, Monarch, Legend. We could also see a moniker for their baby boy that pairs with sister Stormi’s name. According to one TikToker, @lifeofroryofficial, Baby Webster might be already going by his new name’s nickname: Elec, as in, short for “Electric” or “Electricity.” It’s an unusual choice, for sure, but that might be precisely why they’d choose it.
So while we patiently wait, give us your thoughts! What are your hopes for former Baby Wolf Webster’s new name? Let us know in the comments!
