Star
I’ve been interested in names since I was old enough to know that mine was unusual. After many years of life and a few English degrees, I made a career out of studying names and the effects of naming, and teaching this stuff to college students. Ava to Zeke started when fellow name-enthusiast Lynda and I realized we’d been informally talking about baby names for over five years and needed to write it all down. We wanted to create a site for name inspiration, not just information…and we’re glad you found us! When I’m not teaching or naming other people’s children, I’m lounging with my family, playing with my dog, or redecorating my house in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Lynda
I’ve been writing stories since I was a child, and one of my favorite things to do was to name the characters. It wasn’t until Star and I became friends in graduate school that I found someone else who was equally fascinated by names and all that gets attached to what we call ourselves and one another. When I’m not brainstorming and discussing names with Star, I’m a book editor and fiction writer living with my family in Baltimore, Maryland, though I’m still a Wisconsin girl at heart, even decades removed from living in America’s dairyland.
In addition to various short stories, I have also published two books: a one-act play for teens, and a picture book that I wrote and illustrated with my young son and husband.
This site is a labor of love from the both of us, and we hope that it helps you in your journey toward finding the perfect name for your child.
